Engineering Environmental Survey

Engineering environmental survey (EES) is a part of complex engineering survey for construction.

EES is held on different project stages: pre-investment stage, feasibility study, project, etc. Investigations’ results contain baseline data for further project sections (EIA, Mitigation measures, Land reclamation, IEM, etc.) development.

EES legal regulations are listed in Construction Rules 11-102-97, which claim that “Engineering environmental survey for construction is conducted for assessment of environmental conditions and prognosis of probable environmental changes under man-caused impacts, aiming to prevent and eliminate… negative impacts and maintain appropriate living conditions”.

Engineering environmental survey includes field observations of soils, vegetation, landscapes, hazardous geological and hydrogeological processes and determination of human-caused changes of natural environment. Terrestrial and aquatic biota is also investigated. This data forms the basis of further biota damage calculations (one of project documentation sections).

During EES sampling of air, surface and ground waters, soils and bottom sediments is conducted. Radiation situation and results of possible negative impacts of nuclear facilities are determined.

Data on social-economical situation is also collected by requesting information from federal and regional authorities.

EES materials processing provides baseline data for possible environmental changes prognosis and recommendations on environmental monitoring on different stages of facilities lifecycle.
