Land reclamation

Land reclamation is a complex of works for damaged lands recovery and environmental conditions improvement. Reclamation project development is based on Sanitary Regulations and Standards 2.1.7.1287-03 “Sanitation-and-epidemiological requirements to soli condition” and Construction regulations 11-102-97 “Engineering environmental survey for construction”. Land reclamation is performed in two stages: technical and biological.

• Technical stage includes laying-out, slope forming, removal and placement of fertile layer, installation of hydrotechnical and irrigation facilities, toxic stripping soils disposal, etc.
• Biological stage includes complex of agronomic and revegetation measures, aimed to improve agrophysical, agrochemical, biochemical and other soil characteristics.

Government Decree №140 from 23.02.1994 “On land reclamation, replacement, conservation and efficient use of fertile soil layer” determines mandatory requirements for land reclamation procedures in RF for legal and individual entities, including foreign ones.

Land reclamation is performed in cases of:

• open-cast mining and field development using underground methods, peat digging,
• pipeline construction, execution of different types of works (construction, irrigation, mining, engineering geological survey, etc.) leading to soil layer damage,
• demolition of industrial, military, civil, and other buildings,
• waste storage and disposal,
• construction, implementation and conservation of underground facilities and networks,
• mitigation of consequences of land pollution, if land recovery requires fertile layer removal,
• force-on-force exercises performing out of specially developed areas

DIEM specialists (Zagvozdkin V., Makarova M.) are awarded with Russian Federation Government Prize in Science and Technology for “development and implementation of complex of biotechnologies and systems of tundra and north taiga biogeocoenosis’ reclamation after hydrocarbon pollution”.
